Whether you lean right, left, or anywhere in between, many of us avoid these conversations because we're told the divide is too wide, the differences too deep. But what if the divide isn't as wide as we think?

We believe extremism doesn't grow from being challenged. It grows from being endlessly agreed with.

Braver Angels has spent nearly a decade proving that respectful friction — someone who listens fully, then pushes back honestly — is what keeps disagreement from curdling into contempt, and uncertainty from hardening into conspiracy.

I want to mend a relationship

Political differences have strained a lot of relationships — with parents, siblings, old friends, coworkers. As a Courageous Citizen, you'll learn how to have the harder conversation instead of avoiding it, and start rebuilding trust with people you disagree with. Braver Angels workshops like Depolarizing Within, Skills for Disagreeing Better, and Families and Politics can help you get there.

I want to understand other perspectives

Understanding the other side isn't the same as agreeing with it — but it's where trust starts. Braver Angels calls this the Braver Angels Way: listening to understand first, before you respond. It's the foundation of every workshop, debate, and dialogue we host.

I want to share my perspective

By becoming a Courageous Citizen, you can inspire others to confidently express their opinions. Braver Angles Skills Workshops and eCourses help here as well as Debates, Community Dialogues, Common Ground Workshops and Citizen-Led Solutions. You can find these on the Braver Angels Events tab.

I want to build bridges

By engaging in your community, you demonstrate how to build trust and work together with your fellow citizens. Braver Angles programs such as Common Ground and Red/Blue Workshops can help. Many of these are available in person or online. See the Events Calendar.

I want to promote participation

As a Courageous Citizen, you will inspire others to participate in civic engagement, be part of bridging the partisan divide, and building trust. Our volunteers work one-on-one, with small groups and with larger organizations. If you are ready to get involved we recommend starting witht the Ambassador Pathfinder training program.

I'm skeptical!

If you're feeling skeptical, that's completely understandable. In a time when divisions run deep, it's natural to question whether you can truly make a difference. What sets Braver Angels apart is our commitment to fostering honest, respectful conversations between people who disagree—without asking anyone to change their core beliefs.
